How to use the Team charter template

  1. Start a board from it

Use this template opens a new Freero board with the Team charter template on it (sign up free first). On a board you already have, open Templates in the toolbar and search for “Team charter”.

  2. Follow the instruction on the board

“Write it together in one session. Disagreements that come up while writing are the most useful part: settle them here, not in a crisis.”

  3. Fill in each part

    • Purpose Why does this team exist? What would be missing without it?
    • Who we serve Whose problems do we solve, inside or outside the organisation?
    • What we own Decisions, services and systems that are ours to run.
    • What we don’t own Where people often expect us, but another team is responsible.
    • How we decide Who decides what, and how do we disagree?
    • How we communicate Which channels, how fast do we reply, when do we meet?
    • How we know it’s working The few signals we check every month.
    • Next review When do we look at this charter again, and who calls the session?
  4. Bring your team and your agents

Invite people to the board or share a link, and work on it together live. The timer is in the top bar, private mode and voting in the board menu, and Claude or ChatGPT can join through Freero’s MCP server.

Work on it with an AI agent

Connect an assistant once and it works on the board with you, with your permissions: by default it reads and proposes, and people decide.

  1. You ask: “Fill in the Team charter board from these notes.”

What happens It reads the board, then proposes sticky notes for it. Nothing changes until someone on the board accepts them.

  2. You ask: “Group what we wrote into themes and list the actions.”

What happens It proposes clusters with a title each and task cards for the actions, labelled with its name and yours.
