Slack link previews

A Freero board link pasted in Slack unfolds into its title and thumbnail, when the board is public.

Set up by the server’s operator

What it does

The server’s operator creates a Slack app from Freero’s manifest and sets two secrets. After that, a Freero board link pasted in a Slack workspace that installed the app shows a preview.

Only a board anyone with its link may open (no password, not expired) shows its title, description and thumbnail. Every other link, and a link to a board that doesn’t exist, gets the same generic “Sign in to Freero to view it” card, so a preview never reveals a private board.

Connect Slack link previews

  1. Step 1

Run npm run admin -- slack:manifest on the server and create a Slack app from the manifest it prints.

  2. Step 2

Install the app to your Slack workspace, then set SLACK_SIGNING_SECRET and SLACK_BOT_TOKEN on the server and restart it.

Off by default: needs SLACK_SIGNING_SECRET and SLACK_BOT_TOKEN on the server.

In Freero, Apps & agents → Slack link previews takes you straight to this step.
